I have now finally decided which units to take for this photography course. I am interested in location photography particularly looking at Reportage especially weddings shot this way, also landscape and nature shots interest me especially when linked to water.
Update!
I have decided to take the Level 2 Certificate in Specialist Photography and Presentation. The Units I have chosen are Mandatory Unit 211 - Photo Image Presentation, Optional Unit 208 - Principles of Location Photography. The two themes I am currently looking at doing are 1) Nature especially waterscapes and macro photography of plants and the surrounding area, 2) People and Portraits - I prefer the more informal shots taken when taking pictures of people. Especially reportage photography that tells a story of the shots you are taking.)
Statements of Intent
Theme 1 - Nature
Intentions/purpose of the photography to be undertaken:
For this theme of nature I want to look at doing some shots in Black and white because i feel it give a clearer picture without the eye being drawn away by colours going on within the photograph. I want to explore this for seascapes and landscapes but also I am very interested in macro photography when taking a closer look at these images and looking further into what makes up these landscape scenes such as flowers, leaves or rocks for instance.
Reasons for selection of theme (including inspiration from the work of others):
I have always enjoyed taking pictures of both land and seascapes and would love to be able to recreate some of the images i have seen. Also i have a fascination with getting close up to objects and being able to show the finer details.
I have started to research my chosen theme by looking at photography magazines and websites of some photographers.
I have looked at Practical Photography which had an interesting article to do with Macro Photography which is definitely something i would be looking to do. Also the Black and white photography magazine has drawn my attention because i feel black and white pictures are more stunning and captivating than when colour is involved. It allows you to concentrate on shape, form, contrast, pattern, texture and lighting of an image.
Photographers I have looked at so far are Jonathan Critchley because his work covers both b&w and seascapes. Also Rhea Malinofsky is an excellent photographer who tends to work in Black and White.
Photo Imaging equipment and medium that will be used and why?
I will be using a Nikon D60 Digital camera for my shoots. I also think i will need to use a tripod to ensure the image is held steady and free from handshake and a Macro Lens which will allow me get the close up shots i need.
Techniques:
I will be taking my images with the intent of converting them into Black and White because it gives a more dramatic picture especially to the seascapes. Also I will be looking at things in Macro a lot because i like to get close up details of the images i am taking.
Lighting:
It is important that i get the correct lighting when taking these images. Especially with the seascapes because i feel you can get more dramatic images especially when the sun is just starting to set or the weather conditions are just starting to change.
Theme 2 - People and Portraits
Intentions/purpose of the photography to be undertaken:
With this theme I again am very interested in taking the pictures in black and white because it gives the picture more of an atmosphere also
